On the 26/02/96, Paul waffled to Dieter..

 Hello Paul,

DM> My last D/L (all 40 minutes {at}2400+errors) had a grunged CRC for
 DM> one of the archives.

 PE> Now THAT is disastrous.

 It was, and painfully slowwwww...

DM> Could you send me 25/2/96 archives for
 DM> AUST_AVTECH and LOCSYSOP & LOCUSER ?

PE> No worries, that's not your fault. We'd better do something
PE> about this though. First of all, I cannot tell whether it is
PE> a problem my end doing the zip. However, the chances are that
PE> since you have been collecting mail for donkey's years without
PE> a problem, I would have to say that the chances are not a problem
PE> with zip, it's too much of a coincidence your millions of errors.

Probably the continuous retries during the modem transmission.
The throughput was error free when it was sending 256 byte
blocks, but when it jumped to 512 byte blocks, the errors
occurred. And then it would renegotiate 256 byte blocks.

PE> Ok, now you are calling with V42bis, which means the modems
PE> shouldn't have any errors. However, the fact that you are doing
PE> so many Zmodem retries suggests that there is a problem outside
 PE> the modem.

 Ahh, who knows.

PE> We need someone to think hard - I'm off, gotta get a Spirit.

Last night's call was quick and error free. I don;t know if that
was your new modem or what.

 Dieter
