subject: Why?

Hello Wilfred,

LL>> No elist/echolist has any official status in FidoNet.

WvV> So they say. But Z1 "powers" like to forse it upon the rest of us.

It is all about "control" - else why have the need for an
elist/echolist at all? Aren't we all adults here, the sysops
capable of keeping track of whatever echoes they want to have
or keep on their own systems?

WvV> For instance, from the echo rules of the ECHO_ADS area:

 WvV> "

WvV> * All advertised echoes must be in the current Elist. No privately
WvV> distributed echoes are allowed to post ads in this echo.

WvV> * Only echo moderators as shown in the current Elist are eligible to
WvV> post in this echo. [...]

Sean Dennis is an asshole and has absolutely no authority
to make any such demands on anybody.

What is telling is he has the ear of those who want to control
others. He may not be capable of doing it himself, but is willing
to do his part to help those who can do it.

It makes no difference what is written in P4, or in any other
FidoNet policy document. The abuse of power is not dependent on
such meaningless pieces of cyberjunk, as everything that can be
claimed as a basis for complaint can be freely ignored by those
in power.

There are two ways to deal with this problem -

1. Ignore the problem and hope it goes away

2. Do something about the problem and make it go away

The choice is up to you.
