Ever since the release of Windows95, that's been the case. When the early
betas came out, I was at a software company. Remember Flying toasters?

One day, our Novell Netware network - production for administration,
accounting and engineering went down. Everything looked OK on our end, but
the network was unavailable.

Turns out that one of the engineers turned on the Netware Core Protocols
emulation without talking to us, and his misconfigured system hosed the
wire, making access to the real network impossible because of a network
number mismatch.

When I politely explained to him what happened, I received no apology or
even acknowledgement - just a chiding that "it shouldn't do that if I'd
properly configured my network".

I went back to my desk and properly configured his network - put him on a 10
mbps shared segment with Accounting's printers. I was a BOFH back then!
