 I assume that the Spirit was the modem that got zapped.
 Generally, I had a 50% successful connect rate, with the
 tone negotiations going down in speed as they attempted to
 connect. If it doesn't connect on the first set of tones, it
 wouldn't connect at all.

 The recent courier(?) connected first time, everytime.

 The Netcomm abortion wont even connect at 9600, 4800 and barely
 manages 2400. It has multiple errors with or without
 V42bis compression.

 I assume that you are swapping modems this evening (Monday), so
 I will try again with factory default, and work my way down from
 there.
