subject: Letting dead echoes lie

An open letter to all:

There are more dead echoes than there are live echoes in Fidonet. Scanning
through online archives, many of them have, as their only message traffic,
automated posting of the rules - to be read by no one.

If you have a dead echo, please consider letting it die. Fidonet will be a
more lively place with fewer echoes carrying traffic rather than an echo
wasteland where people can't find the active echoes.

Otherwise, if you have a dead echo, wear your moderator hat and start a
dicussion! I'm sure there are other people like me around; I have the
backbone linked to my system; I'm sure others like myself will join in.

Lastly, if you want to see more traffic on Fidonet, adopt an echo. Pick a
dead echo, advertise it here, and let's see if we can get people talking
again.
