Hi all. I got a few things recently:
Used LPs:
Genesis -- Genesis (1983, Vertigo) -- This is a West German pressing on
the Vertigo label and it sounds much better than the U.S. Atlantic LP,
which I've always been disappointed with. Sure, this album isn't one of
their best, but seeing that cool Roger Dean painting on the Vertigo
label made me want it. Plus, the condition is not bad (mint --, I'd
say).
Genesis -- A Trick Of The Tail (1976, Famous Charisma) -- This is a
Japanese pressing. I've been looking for this for awhile (I'm trying to
get all the original Genesis Charimsa label LPs). Unfortunately, the
condition is not the best -- lots of small scratches -- and the sound
is, surprisingly, not great. The remastered CD of this blows it away.
Still, it was only $5 and the gatefold cover is in near perfect
condition and it came with those Japanese inserts with all sorts of
Japanese text everywhere. The lyrics are prined both on the inside of
the gatefold AND on this Japanese insert. This cover is a marbled
yellow and white whereas the Atco cover of this was solid yellow.
Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass -- Whipped Cream And Other Delights (196?,
A&M) -- I grew up listening to my parent's LPs of this band and seeing
this original pressing with a mint cover and near mint LP I just had to
have it. There are still songs on this that I enjoy.
Kayak -- See See The Sun (1973, Harvest) -- I picked this up 'cause I
like _Royal Bed Bouncer So Much_. This one is not as accessible, but
I'll give it some more time. The LP sounds very good, which I would
expect from Harvest.
Kayak -- Royal Bed Bouncer (1975, Janus) -- I bought this only for the
lyrics inside the gatefold. The CD I have of this sounds better, but
they didn't include the lyrics. This LP is pretty rare, too, 'cause
it's a DJ banded copy. There are a few songs on the CD that flow right
into another, but the songs are faded out on this LP. Also, the cover
is different.
The Move -- Message From The Country (1971, Capitol) -- Well, I was
extremely surprised to find this, and it's in near mint condition. I'm
a collector of old ELO/Move/Idle Race/Roy Wood etc so this REALLY made
my day! Of course, I've already got this on CD (actually 2), but,
man, this is the original LP!
New LPs:
Hotlegs -- You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think Of It (1970,
Phillips) -- This is an English import on the Phillips Sonic Series
label which sounds extremely good. You may remember me asking about the
song "Neanderthal Man," which is on this album. The Idle Race's version
is really close, but a little faster and a little more psychedelic. I
haven't listened to this whole LP yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
Used singles:
The Beatles -- "I Am The Walrus" b/w "Hello Goodbye" (Capitol
Orange/Yellow swirl label) -- An original single in near mint condition
for only $7. I couldn't pass it up. This would normally go for $15 or
more.
The Move -- "Flowers In The Rain" b/w "Here We Go Round The Lemon Tree"
(A&M) -- What a surprise! As I said before, I collect this stuff. Man,
I *never* thought I'd see this. It's not in mint condition or anything,
but it's not bad, really.
Genesis -- "The Lady Lies (live)" (Flexipop 021) -- This is a green
flexidisk from Flexipop magazine. This is rare and I couldn't believe I
found it. I was digging through some boxes of 45s and there it was. As
you can imagine, the sound quality isn't the best, but that's not why I
bought it.
New CDs:
Alice Cooper -- Goes To Hell (1976) -- This is a favroite album of mine.
The Move -- The Move (1968, Repertoire) -- This CD completes my Move
collection.
Yes -- Yesterdays (1974, Atlantic remaster) -- I had to get this for the
long version of "America." Plus, there are quite a few other tracks on
here that I like.
Magma -- Attahk (1976, Charly) -- This is a great one, if you like
Magma.
Traffic -- Traffic (1968, Island) -- I haven't listened to this yet, but
I bet I'll like this. It was only $8 anyway.
I think that's it.
