WL> I just thought of something. Nowhere in the Constitution is
WL> there any mention of either a procedure or a _need_ for
WL> impeaching a Vice President. Could Starr indict Algore on
WL> Templegate (or Phonegate, or...), bring him to trial and
WL> force him from office before the House cranks up the
WL> impeachment machinery for the Commander-'n'-Cheat?
Remember Spiro Agnew? He faced impeachment after pleading
nolo contendre to charges of accepting kickbacks as
Governor of Maryland. [And we're supposed to ignore the
irregularities of the Dufus' gubernatorial service?] But
Agnew resigned before a Bill of Impeachment could be drawn
up by Congress.
WL> This would force Clinton to nominate another VP, who must
WL> then be approved by the Senate...and with the contents of
WL> Starr's report circulating through both houses of Congress
WL> by that time (as it surely will, even if it is officially
WL> suppressed), Clinton would have to either appoint someone
WL> who's acceptable to Republicans, if only to avoid turning
WL> the White House over to Mr. Newt succeeding him the moment
WL> he is impeached.
Let's see now: Gore impeached/resigns -> Dufus nominates VP
replacement -> Dufus impeached/resigns -> Senate rejects VP
nominee.
That leaves the top two slots empty. Newt becomes President
and nominates VP [J.C. Watts?] and Dick Armey becomes
Speaker.
If only... if only...
... With Clinton and $0.85, you can get a cup of coffee.
