Hello Roy. 04 Sep 03 20:01, you wrote to Tom Walker: RT> Need? No. About the only application I can think of that I'd *like* RT> one for would be mapping, maybe with GPS added, in a vehicle. And RT> that'd still fall into the "neat toy" category, for the time being. A decent (D)GPS unit can store quite a bit of data and usually has a serial, USB, or PS2 connection for dumping data onto a PC later. You wouldn't need an onboard computer for this idea. If continuously logging then you're dealing with 256 bytes, if I recall correctly, every four seconds. Most of the error would be in elevation unless you're driving really, really fast. Usually the price for a good reciever and antenna is less then the price of a cheap new laptop. Given you're in North America you should have little problem picking up a differential signal so a DGPS jubber would be worth the extra coin. You don't need a laptop to collect good xyz data. The money you save by not buying a laptop put towards a quality DGPS antenna and reciever and you'd be ahead of the game.
