G'day,

I had a call from the Australian Embassy on my answering machine when
I got up on Friday. The way they work this is you return the call and
leave a msg on their machine and they get back to you.  That's cool,
because Washington DC is an STD call. I returned the call and then
spent the day wondering if they needed more info or what, since it's
only been 46 days and they said it would take 3 months.

At 5pm I gave up on finding out till Monday, but at 5:55pm the
call finally came. As of yesterday, I am now a Permanent Resident of
Australia.  :-)

I will be home in a couple of weeks.

The reason for the call?  Well, I followed all instructions sent to me
to the letter... and when it came time to mail it, I searched for
details on including an SASE (Self Arsed Stomped Entelope) or similar,
but didn't find any instructions even remotely close to this. So I
didn't include one. After all, following directions includes NOT
sending things NOT asked for. Plus, I kinda figured this was added into
the application fee.  Apparently not, as she phoned so I could make
arrangements for my Visa to be sent to me since I didn't include a
pre-paid envelope.  :-)

I'd whinge about how bloody cheeky that is, but I'm too thrilled at
having my immigration status to do that now. In a few years, maybe. ;-)

That, and the woman whom I dealt with seemed a fair dinkum friendly
person and not what I'd imagined an immigration official to be like at
all.

I'll have my Permanent Resident Visa by Tuesday, and should be home in
the first or 2nd week of December, going from  cold to
 hot in a matter of hours.

So, the next time you're having a whinge about the bloody immigrants,
well, I'm one of them that's **VERY** happy to be.  :-)

I'm coming HOME!!!!!
