While pretending they were multitasking on their Win95 machine, Richard had
this to say to Bill Arlofski:
RG> Bill can you explain what are maguras? Thanks
Magura is a company out of Germany that makes hydraulic brakes for
mountain/road bikes, and I can only assume that they manufacture for
Motorcycles, but that would only be an assumption.
These brakes are smooth... First thing I noticed once on the trail was that
there is ZERO cable-drag friction that is associated with other
cabled-breaks. On the down side, though, they are expensive as compared to
most other brakes, but IMO they are worth every penny.
If you are not a gram-watcher and are looking for a brake upgrade, (and you
have a big wallet) I recommend these HIGHLY. After riding only a few times
with these, it has become painfully obvious to me that some of the claims of
"ON/OFF operation" or "little to no modulation" are a bunch of hooey. I have
never felt in such control of my decelleration system. (for those
physics majors in the house, I guess negative accelleration system is more
fitting)
RG> Sounds like you had a "bring to reality" ride
That is quite true. The whole ride, I was wondering jsut WHAT part of riding
was "fun" and why all I could think about during the winter was riding. Heck,
if someone offered to carry my bike out of the woods for me I would have let
them have the bike, and probably paid them a reward!
Ride to live, live to... OOps, wrong biking motto... :)
