| subject: | Re: XP and my new drive |
From: "John Beamish" Answering my own question: I gave up. I was *never* able to get my usual account (John) to see F G and H (either in Explorer or in My Computer). Administrator, Valerie and several other accounts (some with Admin privs, some without) _all_ saw F G and H. I tried changing drive letters, changing the way the partitions were created, deleting everything and starting from fresh. Nothing changed. *Nothing*. In the end, 1. I created a 31MB Fat partition (for boot purposes) and a 120GB partition for everything else and didn't give either partition a drive letter. 2. I used Ghost to clone the current C: to the 120GB partition on the other drive. 3. I set that partition to active. 4. I powered off the machine and disconnected the power and wiring harness to the old C:\ drive as well as setting the jumper on the new drive. 5. I powered on the machine, it booted and the John account (and every other one) sees a 120 GB drive with lots of free space. But I still don't understand why it wouldn't work the way I wanted it to work.
