Sorry for the delay.  Been a tad busy here.
The smell is that of the wax on the wick.  Not much cure for it other than 
using beeswax for the candles (expensive unless you know a bee-keeper)

Hate it, like most surface Navy (and Aviation Navy).  Its highly innacurate 
in *most* details.  Those of us who do watch it, do so for the laughs. Rumor 
has it the Navy offered to assist with the technical aspects, but the show's 
producers declined being afraid we would affect the 'story line'.  The result 
was a very innacurate view.  Minor example for instance:  Everytime they go 
on the flight deck, they are wearing covers and are basically walking FOD 
hazards, normally without even a flight deck jacket for basic safety.
