An example script might be:

#BBBSPERL=/usr/bin/perl

# Change to working directory
cd /home/bbbs

#Execute poll command
/home/bbbs/bbbs bom create 1:261/38 +crash

#Touch BBBS rescan semaphore file
touch /home/bbbs/work/rescan.1

#Update poll log to show poll was made (All one command, No wordwrap)
echo "1:261/38 (Janis Kracht) System Poll Successful: $(date)" >>
/home/bbbs/logs/bbbs-poll.log
#======End Script=======

More could be done here but this is a basic script to poll. I have a  BBBS
semaphore file that is touched if mail/files are received as a result 
of the poll.
