The amp may be distorting, but the speaker doesn't know that. It's just getting current. What the speaker doesn't want is the current that's just on the other side of that distortion, which , for the amp, is a clipped signal to the point that it sends out DC current to the speaker. That's what melts voice coils. (When the amp is playing cleanly, the amp is sending AC current to the speakers.) - Mike --------------- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LAST Message In Thread <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: DBT00006 Date: 07/21/96 From: SEAN DUNBAR Time: 11:39pm \/To: TYLER SMITH (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: CAR AUDIO...NEED A LITTLE HELP, I'M 23:39:3807/21/96 TS> first of all...Thanks a lot!...the only thing that confused me were TS> the above lines 50+50=100...(obviously) but if you have a 50x2 amp TS> and say, a 30x4 in your reciever...won't you just get 50 to each of TS> two speakers, and 30 to four?? this was the reasoning behind my TS> saying 80 watts to 2 speakers...not just a mathematical TS> error....please let me know if you get a chance...Thanks again! If you have the speakers running off the amp, then the amp built into the head unit isn't doing squat. --- Telegard v3.02/mL ---------------* Origin: The Other Side Node 3 / 915-590-3817 / El Paso, TX (1:381/95) * Origin: The Other Side Node 3 / 915-590-3817 / El Paso, TX (1:381/95) |
