NM> 1) With someone whom you know also has a 56K modem
NM> are you getting a lot of 56k connects? and
The only 56K protocol currently available for most of us is the USR x2
protocol. With the recent FCC input, the maximum that you will see is
53k3. I've seen a couple of 52000 connects and quite a few in the 46,666 to
49,333 range.
One thing to remember is that the system you are calling *MUST* have a
digital connection to the phone line. The Courier I-modem (I for ISDN) is
the minimum for a USR system. Without that digital connection at one
end, you simply have a v.34+ modem.
NM> 2) What kind of cps? and
CPS on a 48,000 connect were in the 5450 range. As with v.34, it can vary
all over the place as the connect speed changes with line conditions. Beats
a standard v.34 connect. I'm really looking forward to waiting even faster
with my ISP -- they can't even keep a 24,000 connect saturated.
NM> 3) Are you having any regular glitches?
No real glitches but if I'd had to pay for the upgrade, I would have
waited till the ITU-T came up with a standard.
Regards,
David
