AG> > JdeBP> OS/2's binary INI files also have this advantage. Windows echoes > JdeBP> are full of people who have hand-mangled their INI files, and > JdeBP> suddenly find themselves without fonts, without printers, or with a > JdeBP> completely non-functional Windows system because they've removed the > JdeBP> wrong VxD line. You don't see any equivalent messages in OS/2 > JdeBP> echoes. > > No they just have to completely re-install, [...] AG> But you maintain that OS/2 users are astute, remember ? An astute OS/2 user will have read the manual, and learned that the MAKEINI program can be used to re-create a default OS2.INI or OS2SYS.INI without the need to reinstall anything. An even more astute OS/2 user will have grabbed any of the 3 or so REXX scripts that float about on FIDONET, that will read and parse OS2INI.RC, allowing for the defaults to be re-instated without destroying any additional configuration information. The *really* astute OS/2 user will be able to write such a REXX script from scratch, as needed. (-: Which nevertheless digresses from the main point that most people don't hand-edit OS2.INI *because* it is in binary format, thus leading to none of the "I edited my INI file and it stopped booting" problems that plague the Windows world. > JdeBP < ___ X MegaMail 2.10 #0: --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: DoNoR/2,Woking UK (44-1483-725167) (2:440/4) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 625/100 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 SEEN-BY: 711/955 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 440/4 141/209 270/101 712/515 711/808 934 |
