  Well then... what was your problem?  :)  If your modem is reporting 14400 
(or
28800 or whatever) in Windows, it just means that TMW's init string causes
your modem to report the actual connect speed rather then the locked rate.

great loss, and many prefer it that way.
  If you mean you cannot lock the port at that speed, then you might have a
comm driver problem in Windows.  Win 3.1's comm support is notoriously bad.
If you are using Win 3.1, there are third-party comm driver replacements 
hich
are supposed to help quite a bit.  Windows for Workgroups supposedly has
better drivers which do not have this problem.  YMMV.
 AB> modem is actually 33.1 put out by USR, their Courier model.
  I though USR had something a little faster then 28.8.  USR tends to always
have something a little faster then, but incompatible with, the industry
standard at the time.
