Hello
Why not try ribbon embroidery.  Buy a small kit that makes two pins.  It
will come with all you need plus directions.
It's sad to say but few people send thank you notes, especially for
teacher gifts.  I like to get notes that flatter but I guess not
everyone takes the time to say so.  Perhaps one of the things I like
about this echo is how complimentary and kind people are to each other.
