RC> Tobacco really isn't that profitable a black market
RC> product. The price/volume ratio is too low. A $50 carton
RC> gives a price/volume ration of about $.50 per cubic inch.
RC> That's far less than the value of a cubic inch of crack or
RC> heroin.
It's profitable if the 'bacco farmer or supplier of 'bacco cures the
stuff and sells it to the fellow that shreds the stuff, and makes his
own fags and sells them cheaper than the $50.00 stuff. Hell, bootleg
whiskey used to be a profitable business, until ABC stores opened up.
There are plenty of 'bacco farmers that would like to stay in business
with someone who would pay them a better price for the flu cured
product. There is more to the 'bacco business than cigarettes. John
Deere gits his cut, Armstrong Tire (makes tractor tires) gits their
cut, pesticides, fertilizer, 'bacco barns, irrigation equipment, field
hands, lease of land to farmers for increased allotments, the list goes
on and on, and there is the tobacco companies that employ thousands.
This ignorant bunch in Washington has a one track mind. Git the monies
from them 'bacco fools and spend it before they git the green. There is
nothing to prevent the Tobacco companies to from pulling up stakes and
moving to Brazil where 'bacco grows good and labor is cheap. Those
Washington smarts are fixin' to kill the Goose that lays the Golden
Eggs! BTW know anyone that would like to drive the tractor trailer
hauling cases of 'bacco? At $50.00 a carton, with 24 cartons to the
case, and over a thousand cases to the trailer? Would make a good
hijacking target with over a million bucks worth of habit forming
nicotine for the organized crime boys.
