I had it figured out before.  I'm not stupid.  P=pointer.  That's why I didn't
use the address operator.  Then I'd be sending a pointer to a pointer, not
a pointer, which is what I wanted.  As I now know, however, the 16-bit API
functions do not implicitly allocate memory.  That's all I needed to know.
