JF> Wow, it's the Duke 3D music (and sound) man himself! I didn't

Thanks. I don't really hang out so much as lurk. Joe just found the right
button to push. ;-)
JF> There's a lot of "oomph" to them. A few little things though... for
JF> one, how come you don't hear the clatter of bullets after you've fired
JF> your pistol or chaingun?
My contribution to the sound effects on this game was not very extensive,
since it was started before I got the job as Music and Sound Director.
Bobby Prince actually did most of the effects, except on the Plutonium Pak,
where I did most of the non-DukeTalk effects. I also did the effects on
the cinematics at the end of episodes two through four, along with the one
at the start of episode four.
As for why the effects you mention aren't in there, it's possible that
Todd, Allen, George, and the rest of the gang didn't think to have them.
It's also possible that they did think of them, but there wasn't enough
space and/or time to get them into the game. I would think that the latter
is more likely.
JF> Just today I was trying to integrate some digital music into my
JF> level for effect, namely the intermission music. How
JF> come I can never seem to get that (and the Duke theme, for that
JF> matter) to work? Things like the "Born to be Wild" music work.
This I do not know, since I did not work on the code and have never used
Build in my life. I make noise - it's up to the programmers to decide how
to get that noise into the game. Joe may be able to point you in the right
direction on this question.
JF> PS It would be great to see a Duke 3D music CD, with the best tunes
JF> (like the theme, the LA Rumble music, etc.). I'd listen to it any
JF> day.
Have you found track 2 of the Plutonium Pak/Atomic Edition CD? Play it.
