Hi Russell, >> Oh, I know that's true ... I'm still helping out my daughter with >> Grad school. I understand, really. It's not easy, and it gets >> expensive.. > I got one in High School, one in Primary School, and the little one in the > creche. :-) Ouch :) The ones in High School were the big expense for us :) Then college came.. bigger ouch I think ours were maybe 6 and 8 when we started with computers.. good ages.. I taught them to program as well I had the time, which was a big difference, I think.. If Ron had tried to learn alone, I doubt any of that would have happened . When we moved to NY in May, I actually found one of my daughters' early programs and boy, did we have a laugh.. it was called "groof" (don't ask me where she got that from ).. it maps out screen locations with boxes, ends up on one with a ball, and says, "Enter this screen location:". If you get it wrong, it then says, "You lose! study harder! The END!" >> software firm he's working with now, FP Technologies. But our aim was >> to enter the computer field as full time employees.. many people don't >> go that far, and I can understand their not wanting to, or not being >> able to do so. > If I really wanted to, I probably could move into the computer field, ie. > software/hardware support, but wonder how long before I bounced a lame users > head of off his desk. :-) hahahaha :) Dealing with customer support for hardware/software is not easy, that's for sure :) >>> Also if I am going to do any amout of programming then I definitely >>> want a faster system than I have at present. :-) >> Sure, when you get to a point, that's true. > I have a few tutorials already, just trying to locate a free Borland C++ > compiler for the Windows platform I believe exists. I can find the link for you.. I had it here somewhere, if someone doesn't post it before I find it :) >> Maybe you can find some decent online tutorials that are free and >> have >> a look at them one day when you find yourself with a little time on >> your hands.. I know those days don't come often, but for me at >> least, it happens now and again. > I get those time to time, not that I ever lack something to do during those > times. :-)) Heh.. Sounds like Ron these days too.. You'd think that with a new house, everything would be in good shape.. we're finding that not to be so true :( It's an old victorian, built in the mid 1800's, which is what we wanted, and we expected there to be a lot of upkeep.. but it turns out the previous owners weren't quite honest about things like the upstairs bathrooms and no leaks, that kind of thing . At least he can fix these things himself, which is a bit cheaper than it might have been :) Take care, Janis --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-4* Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) SEEN-BY: 120/544 123/500 261/38 633/260 262 267 270 285 634/383 640/954 654/0 SEEN-BY: 690/682 771/4020 774/605 2432/200 7105/1 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 774/605 633/260 285 |
