My supplier sent along three extra DIMMs when I ran into the difficulty
with the first pair.

The pair I've got in there now seems to be working fine :-)
I've got to drop the three I'm not using in the mail in the next
day or so.

I've now little doubt this was the nature of the problem with
the first pair rebooting endlessly.

I even switched on the primitive memory checker in config.sys
so I can watch the 256 Meg tick by with satisfaction.

Running scandisk the last two days now no data corruption is
apparent so it looks like these two sticks have just the extra
margin to work in these pickier machines :-)

I thought I'd never recover the hard drive but Charles A.
passed along some advise that I just repeat a procedure
I'd already done a number of times and I got it back.
