Hi Jeff,

That reminds me of my SB16's manual: "if you don't have Windows 95, we
suggest you to install it". 3Com is going the same way as Creative. Do
you plan to bundle Win98 with your modems ? Looks like the entire har-
dware industry is promoting Windows harder than Microsoft itself. I ho-
pe 3Com gets a remuneration from Microsoft for the hard work. A fine
work, indeed.
My brother, who is a typical computer-illiterate person running Win95
because "it does everything for me", just flashed his Sportster Messa-
ge Plus. Unfortunately Win95 crashed while flashing the modem. And now
the modem is unusable, every subsequent firmware flashing fails with
a "modem code corrupt" message. Since this Sportster MP doesn't have
any hardware switch for disaster recovery, he will have to return it
for $$$ repair. With my Courier that wouldn't happen because it still
has DIP switches that aren't (yet, but who knows ?) dependant on a
particular software or OS to function.
This is why I don't like that "all-in-software" or "all-in-Windows"
mentality. Yes it's nice to let it do everything for you, but when
it doesn't work you're SOL.
Read you soon !
