Hi, David.
DH> Me too. Actually, Marvel has a few mini-series coming out in the
DH> near future which I'd like to pick up... "Warlock" is one as is
DH> "Dr. Strange" and "Iron Fist" is the other. Now if only they'd
DH> give us an Ant-Man, Human Torch & Sub-mariner mini-series... I'd
DH> be in 7th Heaven...
DB> How would you like to have Warlock, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Human
DB> Torch & Sub-Mariner all join Iron Fist (& Powerman) for Heroes for
DB> Hire?
That'd be a mighty impressive team, IMO... and one I'd love to
see happen... although, I've gotta wonder whether somebody like Adam
Warlock or Doctor Strange would work for a comporate entity like
Oracle. That may be a little too mercenary for them. BTW, Ant-Man is
already a member of Heroes For Hire.
DB> Already John Hammond is associated with the team, so if he could
DB> regain his flame powers there you go!
Having read the description for one of the upcoming issues of
"Heroes For Hire", I'm kinda wondering whether the writers have plans
for Hammond... which might include getting his powers back. I guess
we'll have to keep our fingers crossed.
It's also worth mentioning that I wasn't specific enough when I
named the Human Torch as a character I'd like to see get a mini-
series. I was talking about the Fantastic Four's Torch... not the
original (although both of 'em are good candidates for solo mini-
series IMO).
DB> Now that Marvel Team-Up is going to the birds, this would make
DB> a good home for Namor.
Namor's time as host of Marvel Team-Up was a "limited time" kinda
thing anyway... so he woulda been a "guy without a book" in the not-
too-distant-future, whether MTU continued or not. I agree though, a
regular place on a super-team would be nice.
DB> Frankly I think that Warlock, Dr. Strange, Human Torch and Sub-
DB> Mariner would look best as a new DEFENDERS line-up (with a few
DB> other characters).
I think you're right. Warlock would make an excellent
replacement for the Silver Surfer on a new Defenders team (since the
Surfer's own adventures keep him really too busy... and far away from
Earth to effectively participate in a team-book anyway). So, I guess
the only other question would be, who would you add to the team to
fill it out? Me, being the fan of the old Defenders book, I'd
probably pick the Hulk, Valkyrie & Nighthawk (assuming Marvel actually
does resurrect him).
DB> Human Torch & Sub-Mariner I would like to see join Captain America
DB> for an all-new INVADERS, which could eventually bring in a new
DB> Whizzler, a new Union Jack.
1) Isn't there already a modern-day Union Jack? I forget where I saw
him (perhaps it was in Marvel UK's "Knights Of The Pendragon"
series)... but I'm pretty sure there is a new incarnation of the
Union Jack around somewhere.
2) The only problem I have with Captain America being a part of a new
Invaders team is that it'd probably get in the way of him being an
Avenger. Perhaps, since all 3 surviving original Invaders have been
Avengers, the Invaders could be a division of the Avengers... kind of
like the Legion Espionage Squad is to the Legion Of Super-heroes.
Cap, Subby & the original Torch could be the only regulars... with
their ranks being filled out with other characters (inactive Avengers,
perhaps?). That way too... rather than creating a regular Invaders
series, Marvel could get away by doing periodic mini-series or
specials... having the team unite only when they're needed.
3) Rather than create a new Whizzer, why not just add Quicksilver to
the team? He's evidently not going to be a full-time Avenger again,
so it's not like he doesn't have the time... and besides, he does have
a history with the original Whizzer (Pietro and Wanda thought they
were his children for a time... before they learned their real dad was
Magneto).
4) Another character I can see fitting in with this bunch (for some
strange reason) is the Black Widow.
DB> Just food for a thought!
Aw man! I'm supposed to be on a diet...
Talk to you later.
David
