I agree here, and I have often myself wondered why this came about; I came to
the conclusion that, when it all REALLY started, with Wolfenstein 3D (an
APOGEE game! How great!) that was the basic set of weapons, minus the last
couple, and you forget the basic, fun, but fairly useless weapon, i.e. the
lowly 2-inch reach knife, the fist, the Mighty Foot, the Baseball bat
(radiaki) and so on. In Blake Stone, the first game not to have a 'useless'
last resort weapon, a great idea, a ranged, SILENT weapon, that was basically
of negligible damage-wreaking potential. I wished I could have given it more
power, because the guards wouldn't be alerted when I killed one, and it gave
me a sniper-like attitude working thru the level, esp. when getting out of an
elevator and there was the back of a guard and you KNEW there was a roomful
f
baddies waiting there to get you. I'd like to see the sniper rifle added, a
hi-power tool of the trade that could in effect eliminate the major trouble
spots if done right, but if botched, could, as in real life, lead to a
itched
battle as they go to find you. Naturally if there's a pair of guards standing
together, and not killing each other, and one's brains suddendly spill out
onto the floor, and there's only one window on the north wall, of course he
should start shooting like crazy at that spot, and, if he has any knowledge
f
the building he's in (imagine THAT, game designers) like anyone who's been
ut
in a building, esp. to GUARD it, DOES, he'll know the route to get to where
the sound or shot came from, unless it was masked, silenced, or suppressed.
f
he can't get there, he should radio the others nearby there to do the same.
That much realism could drive the ease out of the game, though. Anyway, back
to the weapons thing, if there were more silent, sentry-removal type weapons
in there, such as garrottes, clubs, cords, knives, and the like, the whole
thing anout the enemies having the size in numbers would be counterbalanced.
hope the game designers hear this conversation, they DO want feedback, this
s
it. hope to keep on this subject a while.
