| subject: | CHKDSK with XP |
I have been running CHKDSK on the XP PC that I have been having problems with. When I run CHKDSK C:, without arguements, it runs a quick check. If I run CHKDSK C: /P, it runs a fairly quick check, and reports that it has found at least one error on the system, but does not report what type of error. If I run CHKDSK C: /R, it runs quite a while, but still doesn't report what type of errors that it is finding (I am assuming it is, because /P did find at least one), or what it is doing to fix them. Back in the day, DOS CHKDSK would report what type of problems it was finding (lost chains, etc.) and would prompt for some user interaction when it went to fix them. SCANDISK, which came with later versions of DOS and the Win9x family, also told you what it was doing. Is there any way to know what XP CHKDSK (based on NT and not DOS, I know) is doing? Does it write to a log file? Note that CHKDSK, without arguements, is not reporting the disk as "dirty," although /P has found, and still finds, at least one error. Don't really know what that means, but I thought it might help with my question. ;-) Mike --- GTMail 1.26* Origin: Kentucky's Capitol City Online * 502/875-8938 (1:2320/105.0) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 2320/105 261/38 123/500 106/2000 396/45 379/1 633/267 |
