It is depent on the *source* of the nutrients...  At one time,
rainwater was considered neutral... however, as most of ours
(here in Texas/Ok. comes to us via the SE... out of Mexico, over
the salt flats of N.M., by the time it gets to us, it is quite alkaline...
so there are more things at work than one might, at first glance.
