Hello MICHAEL,
ML> Thanks for that. How's your BBS going?
I think it is going well. Running a BBS is a hobby for me but I do take the BBS
quite seriously. I am running MagickaBBS, a fairly new (4-5 years) BBS written
by Andrew Pamment that runs on TCP/IP protocols, telnet, ssh, ftp and http.
In spite of it's newness it is a standard BBS that includes the usual things
you would expect from a BBS. It has a few door games, a few file areas and all
the active message areas I can find. Offline mail is supported for QWK or Blue
Wave mail readers.
The BBS is available over telnet at trmb.ca on port 2023. It is also available
with ssh at trmb.ca on port 2024. The file areas are accessible on the web and
ftp as well as the BBS. The message areas are available to read and write on
the web to registered BBS users but not to annonymous web users or crawlers.
A new user can create an account by logging onto the BBS with telnet at trmb.ca
on port 2023 and entering New at the prompt and the BBS will take you through
the new user process.
ssh is a secure option and is what I use to log onto the BBS. A new user can
create an account on the BBS using the username new, and a password of new and
the BBS will take you through the new user process.
The new user process will first ask you for a username for login. You can
choose any username not already in use. The username you choose here will be
used in the who's on and last few callers. You will then be asked for your
first and last name. This will be used in places (like Fidonet) where it is
required. The new user process will also ask you for your location. The only
reason for this for the last few callers list. If you'd rather folks not know
your location you can just enter Somewhere, or something like that. It will
also ask for your email address. It is optional and only needed if I need to
contact someone off BBS for some reason, lost passwords maybe. The last
question is your password. Your password will be stored securely and I have no
way to know what it is. I can change it to something else if someone forgets
what it is but it's better if folks don't forget. I have lost my own passwords
once or twice so I understand when that happens but I will need a valid email
address to send someone a password if that happens.
Ttyl :-),
Al
