That's not bad. They might have used that if they'd had the name
"Starfleet" from the very beginning.
Interesting how they were so hung up on the word "United". I
know they have to use that to make it fit the USS pattern they're looking
for. But Kirk even uses the term generically in Triskelion ("We're
officers on a united space ship"). They're so proud of the fact that
something or other is united, but they're not clear what. I think in the
beginning they were thinking in terms of the Earth being united under a
one-world government (Sounds thrilling, doesn't it? One-Size-Fits-All
solutions for everyone). In a lot of those early episodes they talk about
the Enterprise being specifically "an earth ship". The concept
of a multi-race, multi star system galactic Federation didn't come until
later.
