Dear Fellow Mouseketeer,
We were talking about the controversy surrounding the proposed changes
for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" when I asked the following question:
"How do we bring about a better, more peaceful world?"
You responded by saying: "You can't. It's an impossibility...
... because peace is harder to keep than it is to win."
Friend, I can think of no more worthy purpose in life than working
on a daily basis to do what we can to establish and preserve peace,
thus making the world A BETTER PLACE, a safer place where all people
can enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
You said: "One cannot change a whole lifetime around because someone
says we have to. That is our decision to make if we want to do it..."
Steven, society imposes certain obligations and duties on each of us.
For instance, all of us must attend school. Beyond that, YES, it is
_YOU_ who decides what to do with your days and you should not be so
limited in your thinking as to what can be achieved in one lifetime!
And since your thinking and your decision-making is influenced by your
experiences and the information you collect, you are well advised to
consider how you are being programmed and how you program yourself!
In that light, I suggested that it's worth considering the impact of
manufactured social experiences such as "Pirates of the Caribbean"
which some people see as romanticizing or otherwise glorifying piracy,
violence and licentiousness.
The Disney Company spends an incredible amount of money _fighting piracy_
in order to ensure its own self-preservation! Therefore, it's only WISE
for Disney to consider how much it might be contributing to establishing
a mindset that piracy is somehow okay. And so the question remains:
"How do we bring about a better, more peaceful world?"
You can choose to be apathetic or pessimistic about your ability to
"change the world." But recognize that others will disagree with you!
The Disney Company cares! Disney listens to its customers! And as long
as the Disney Company enjoys WISE leadership, it will pursue a course
which is best for the long-term survival of the company _and_ the world.
I offer this message as food for thought in the name of Peace
and in the Spirit of Topsy-Turvy Day... for I AM...
