subject: Setup!

Hi Dot!
-=> Quoting Dorothy Ferris to Carol Surzinski <=-
DF> living room has become MY room. I mainly live on my couch (eat, sleep
DF> and do crafts there). The couch does not fold out to a bed but we have
DF> it decked out like one. I have a stand that is couch high at the end
DF> by my feet. I rest my table top iron board on it and over to the
DF> couch so I can press all my seams. Then up by my head I have a TV
DF> tray that has my phone and other goodies on it. Next I have a lap
DF> tray with a cutting mat that fits just right for cutting. Then comes
DF> the mess.........boxes with fabric, milk crates with books and another
DF> box of all my gadgets for quilting, a popcorn tin with all my
DF> embroidery (also a great foot rest), 2 bags of yarn for my crochet
Hehehe! This sounds a lot like the setup we had with our living
room when I had my heel spur surgery! I couldn't crawl onto our
waterbed with both feet out of commission (my side is against the
wall due to a small bedroom and large bed, so I have to crawl in
over the footboard and up to the head of the bed every night to
get in!) and anyhow the wheelchair I was stuck in would not go
through any doorways except the large open one to our kitchen, so
I slept on the couch. It was up on cinder blocks so I could get
up off it into the w/c. It was Christmas time...I had the surgery
done Dec. 14th. So I had the controls to the tv, and the switch
to the Christmas lights on the tree and around the full-length
mirrors behind the couch, plus the switch the lamp extension cords
were plugged into, on a table beside me. I also had a potty chair
beside the Christmas tree! Real classy, let me tell you! hehehe!
I wasn't allowed to set feet to the floor for 2 weeks...what a big
pain that was! I had crafting patterns and supplies all around me
along with two huge pillows to prop my feet up on, and an ice chest
full of ice for my ice packs and Pepsi for my addictions, a large
Tupperware container of goodies on the end table, and fruit for my
breakfast in a bowl on the other end table. I was all set for a
long stay! hehe
Tom had to work up till Dec. 23rd, then he had taken his vacation
time the rest of the year till after New Year's, so that helped as
his sister had come to visit and some meals were expected. But I
sure did a lot of crafting during that two weeks until the stitches
came out, and for the month after that. Then I was busy getting my
walking program re-started. What a pain that was!
I crocheted two afghans, did a lot of x-stitch things for some
family birthdays, and painted a bunch of ceramic items while I was
out of commission. A friend took me to the ceramic shop, w/c and
all, so I didn't miss ceramics class. It was such fun to get out
of this house, even for just a couple of hours!
One day she took me to Wal-Mart and a car nearly ran over me in the
chair while she was pushing me across to the door. We couldn't
believe it! If that person was so blind they couldn't see a 210-lb.
woman in a bright green car coat pushing a 250-lb. woman in a hot
pink sweatsuit in a wheelchair across the road, they should never
have been driving a car! But we sure had a great time in the
craft supplies dept. that day. MAN OH MAN! I got some great stuff.
I felt like a miner who'd just discovered the Mother Lode! hehe
When I could finally drive the stick shift again, I felt like I'd
been let out of prison. But my good friend Bernadette sure did a
lot to help the time go by faster. I wish for you a friend to do
for you what she did for me.
