KL> but that's all I know. I've just installed PC TOOLS Version 8 (circa
KL> 1992) and it's demanding that I supply the name of the directory of my
KL> as-yet-nonexistent modem drivers. Help! Thanks!
Drivers are needed only under a 32-bit operating system. In DOS/Windows 3.1,
the modem communicates directly with the rest of the hardware.
The software that came with the modem was FaxTalk and DOSFax/WINFAX. One was
for receiving faxes (FaxTalk), and the other was for sending them. These are
copyrighted programs, not available for free. Personally, I recommend
QuickLink Fax from SmithMicro if you have to buy the fax software.
No Windows 3.1 drivers were bundled with it, as none are needed. OS/2
recognizes the modem upon installation of OS/2, and will also allow you to
install the modem and update the installed drivers if you already had OS/2
installed first. Linux has special considerations, but the man pages should
help you get started in the right direction.
