CH> BC>The days of the BBS are wrapping up and drawing to a close. BBS's
CH> just don't get it anymore in terms of cost and resources of time and
CH> equipment. FidoNeT is shrinking weekly and is down by over 5,000 nodes
ch> in the last 18-mos. The is nothing to suggest this trend will be
CH> reversed, and so in another year or two, FidoNet will be only a shell of
CH> its former self.
I too can see the difference. When I droped 1:324/111 there were over 6O
BBS numbers just in the 324 Node. Now there are just 12. It really did kill
the dead wood w/those who adopted a POWER attitude as MODERATOR OR SysOp
hat
also turned off lots of good folks. I still see this happening now.
CH> This is truly a sad note. I compare the demise of the bbs (because of
CH> internet) to the demise of all the small hometown newspapers which were
CH> eaten up by the big newspaper dynastys. Of course, Congress passed a
CH> law(s) and gave up some money for the newspapers.
Yes, I thought that the INternet would be a FAD like CB radio was in the
early 198O's but it is still going stronger than ever. I would have thought
the phone bills from Compuserve and others would have killed the Internet.
Good luck!
