Quite possible...and there are several other shareware utils that I still
use hoping that the authors will get around to porting over.  Perhaps I was
thinking of Robert Presland and SEAL...and this is not too far from
parallel with the "broke college student" story.

I have to say that your crosspost did not do a lot to raise my hopes.  If
he was "working on it" several years ago and is just now asking
for an unnamed volunteer to produce EA support into a subset of the source,
I'd guess he'll be "working on it"..."a while longer".
