subject: Watcom to make PM apps

PC> How is Watcom for making PM apps? I thought I read that it is "not the
PC> best compiler" when it comes to making PM apps, but I don't remember
 PC> what it is lacking?

PF> Watcom will _compile_ PM programs just fine; And if you are happy
PF> with the standard IBM toolkit PM tools (ie: dlgedit.exe) you'll be
PF> happy to know that Watcom includes the IBM Toolkit. What watcom does
PF> not have is an OS/2 version of its fancy Windows resource editor.

It also seem to be lacking in the PM IDE, from what I've read in
comp.os.os2.programmer.* I think the editor is the main complaint.

That's not a big problem, I use QEdit and compile from the command most
of the time anyway.

PF> Many people aren't happy with dlgedit (I am; it's a hell of a lot
PF> better than the old dlgbox.exe from the os/2 1.x days). If you have
PF> been used to Borland's "resource workshop", it will feel
like a big
PF> step backwards (except that dlgedit doesn't trap every 5 mins).
PF> Youmight want to check out URE (on recent devcons, inside of the
PF> Toolkit), or a less buggy version of the same thing: Prominare
 PF> Designer Lite (ftp://prominare.com/pub/prominare/pdlite.zip).
PF> I've got the full-blown Prominare Designer (it even spits out some
PF> nice skeleton C/C++/OWL/ICLUI/Others code), but I don't grok it.

PC> Does Watcom have a PM C++ Class Library included?

 PF> No.

I've found a nice little C++ Class Library that supports all the major
compilers, is free and comes with complete source code. OCL120.ZIP,
v1.30 is due out soon. Using this lib will make switching compilers a
breeze, theoretically. :-)

Also, since its under development, and I'm learning C++, I can mature
along with the library, theoretically... :-)
