JP :> When I'm riding he will stop - expand his belly and

If your vet has ruled out any other cause, and this is ONLY happening when
you ride or drive him, then it most likely is nerves, Jean. And pretty bad
ones at that! Some horses just don't show how nervous they are...they don't
shake, misbehave, etc. But it has to come out somewhere (no pun intended!),
and it sounds to me like this is what's happening with X.
I'd quit branning him more than usual and stop the psyllium unless you ;think
you need it....I don't think this has anything to do with a colicy type of
situation. However, if the gas gets really bad and he seems to be in pain,
then you're dealing with another thing totally. How is his manure in his
stall? Does this happen only when you ride or drive, or before or after?
How soon before you ride him are you feeding him? How's his water
consumption? Does he do this with Buddy (and this is a very serious
question).
So, first make sure there's not pain going on here with tack, bit, feet,
legs, back, etc. Then if you've ruled out everything, I hate to tell you
this, but it might be your nerves that are transmitting themselves to him.
If this is the case, then you need to back WAY off and start right from
scratch with athe two of you. You'll have to make sure that you're confident
with anything you do. And, you're going to almost have to retrain him not to
get nervous when you're working with him. You know the drill...short,
pleasant work sessions. Even a few minutes at a time.
LEt's try something...tack him up....lead him around for a few minutes...but
DONT get on....see if he has his problem then. If not, get on for just a few
minutes to see if it happens then...this should give you some idea of whether
this is related to the riding/driving...you...or whatever. It'll have to be
a process of elimination.
Thistle had a similar problem..however it only happened when I put shipping
boots on her..she knew she was going to a show, and she'd start with the
runny manure right away. Never happened any other time.
Sorry to have to say all this stuff to you, but I'd hate not to and have you
think this was just a physical problem with him...and I really don't think it
is.
Let me know ASAP how you make out. This is not what you needed just now,
h?
Meg
