I am attempting to start a business in my area (just outside of Los Angeles)
however, I am not sure where to begin. I have done some preliminary research
which reveals a lack of video production services in this area, and the need
for it is obviously there.
I know I am able to do this...I have worked 8 years in video production
and I own my own equipment (all professional S-VHS equipment). I am confident
in my ability, after all, every local cable access producer calls for me by
name, and I am the first that they call. However, I am not as confident
in puting this idea out to sea. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.
Thank you.
DAVID

Hell man, ya got all da equipment, you must know a little of what you
are wanting. Me, I would start out with a wedding or 2 to get your feet
wet and for you to start getting an image. From there look at other
things. You can bet it will be a slow start, but give it to em and good
luck to you.........

RS> two. I think this PRO_VIDEO echo is wonderful, but I'm
RS> quite frankly very surprised that there isn't more message traffic. I
RS> also get a little frustrated with the lack of message topics on high-end
RS> production things--ie, BetaSP or better, digital routing/switching,
RS> non-linear, as well as tips/techniques for accomplishing editing tricks,
RS> etc. I would really like to read discussions on graphics styles and
RS> trends. I know that there are a lot of folks who read this echo who are
RS> very experienced and work with the best in equipment and people, but it
RS> seems they don't post very much. :( Maybe they're just too busy charging
RS> $500+/hour per room.
As a matter of fact, as desktop video becomes more and more available, more
people are using it professionally. That's why we're seeing so much of it,
as opposed to the limited number of people, like myself, who get to work with
the "big" stuff. When the echo first started, almost ALL of the conversation
related to large-format production, with a smattering of 3/4" and S-VHS. Now
the topics seem to range from desktop video all the way to PC-based editors,
which is great...the technology to make good looking programming is now very
affordable.
As far as hints, tricks and tips go, we've talked about many of 'em
here...I'm all for sharing!
