Hi, Tamara.
DH> Again... like "Chase", I agree with you 100%... even though I
DH> don't necessarily see it lasting very long. Also like "Chase", I
DH> can't afford to keep buying it. I almost wish DC wasn't putting
DH> out so many high-quality-yet-low-key titles... 'cuz 3 years ago
DH> when my collecting was diminshed down to 3 or 4 books a month, I
DH> would've gladly picked up titles like "Chronos", "Chase" and
DH> "Major Bummer". Lou's book hooked me from #1... and although I
DH> keep saying that the next issue will be my last... I always seem
DH> to pick it up each month...
TH> Awwwww, that's too bad. Fortunately for me a couple of my reads
TH> got the axe so I could add Chase and since I added one why not add
TH> another?
That's a big part of my problem too. A while back I decided that
the most ongoing series I could afford to collect on a monthly basis
was 16 (a number which may need to be decreased in the very near
future) and that means that to start up a new one, I have to drop an
existing one. A number of books I was buying have been cancelled over
the years... but there are also a lot of high-profile books which
come along and replace them too. For instance, "Marvel Team-Up" is
being cancelled... but the same month that finishes off... "Thor"
starts. And with "the Inhumans" (a series I've wanted to see become a
reality for years now) coming down the pike, a decision to buy
"Chronos" or "Chase" becomes more difficult.
TH> Both Chase and Chronos so far have been well worth it. Maybe
TH> they'll stick around for longer than you think and some holes will
TH> appear in your subscription list and you can fill 'em with these.
There is always that. A number of the books I'm buying aren't
selling "great", including "Impulse", "Power Of SHAZAM!" and
the Legion books, so maybe DC will eventually decide to get rid of
some of them. Peter David is leaving "Aquaman"... which could
potentially put it on the chopping block in the near-future... and
then there are other books like "Supergirl" which just aren't "wowing"
me like I hoped they would (it's better than it was... but I'm still
not terribly happy with this series).
TH> Major Bummer wasn't a title I was very interested in when I read
TH> the description in Previews. But then I read an interview with the
TH> writer in CBG and it sounded so damn funny I had to give it a try.
TH> I'd missed issue #1 by that time but picked up #2. Hilarious! I
TH> was hooked and still am.
Me too. It's like I can't help myself... I just HAVE to buy
it each month...
For me, what initially interested me in "Major Bummer" was that
the very title had me laughing out loud. Any new comic that can do
that is worth giving a serious shot, IMO. After reading the write-up
about it in that month's "Previews", I knew I had to buy the first
issue. The constant quality of the stories is what keeps me coming
back month-after-month.
Unfortunately, I still don't think MB will be around for the
long-haul... but I'm at least happy it made it beyond it's first year
(something I didn't originally think would happen).
Talk to you later.
David
