 RJT> What brand was the drive you were referring to there?

  I had to do a "rumage-rumage" job into the garbage can here but I
  found it again. It is ( was ) a Toshiba ND-3565AR. I can not find a
  date on it but it was the first ever floppy that I got. 18 to 20 years
  ago. As Jim H. suggested a possibility of reverse connection, I can
  say that this was not the case, hte connectors are keyed and I know to
  place them red to red.
