That's strange. My U1496E+ has always been superb at bad lines.
The previous owner had all sorts of trouble with bad lins until he got
a Zyxel. He only sold it to me because he's a local hub and needed
28.8 and Zyxel didn't offer it at that time.
I've heard the external 1496's were a bit better and often tested
better in cps throughput and in noise handling, although even Zyxel
doesn't know why.
JS> Rather, I think that the phone lines have improved to
JS> the point where the slower protocols now get through.
Nope, because my test was calling the Zyxel tech support BBS which
always connects at 16.8Kbs - Zyxel proprietary protocol. Both the
Elite and the U1496E+ can do higher speeds, so they much have a U1496
non plus model on there. The ELite can't keep the line, every time I
call. The 1496E+ doesn't notice any noise and works great.
JS> That is a problem I've been wrestling with since I got

I may try that if it happens again. I don't see WHY that would help.

There isn't anything in the manual on this, and if that was the
case, it would answer on th second ring, not the third. Also,
my U1496E+ works just fine and I use the same settings on each.
I tried it at work too, and I get the same results.

I did that, and I'm currently trying to find time to port the software
to better utilize the CND features. I don't want to turn it off!!
Its the only thing I have that utilizes the service!! I think Zyxel
needs to fix it!!
JS> Don't bother with the exchange; I think the "ring

I'm not talking about an exchange. Its the principal that
it doesn't work as advertised and is therefore broken, and if
they can't make it work as advertised, then they are breaking
their part of a binading warrantyt agreement. I'm no lawyer, but
I would expect they could be sued for this.

I think they ignore you once they talked to you once. I got one
response from them saying to upgrade to 1.09 from 1.04, and that
just made things worse. Now they won't talk to me at all.
