GD> Good Luck! Has the sale completed?
The appraiser looked at the boat this afternoon (Wednesday),
and he expects to have the appraisal forms filled out and in the
mail to me tomorrow. I should get them by Saturday, then we can go
to the bank next Monday. The loan is approved, we just need all
the papers like the appraisal and title, etc, to satisfy DMV and
my bank. As soon as my Catalina 22 sells, I will pay off the
loan for the new boat. I hope to actually come out a little ahead,
as my Catalina 22 is several years newer than the 25 I am buying
and has a higher valuation. I own the 22 outright, so there is
no lien to satisfy on it. I hope to take delivery of the new
boat the first week of August.
I can't wait for the first launching and overnighter! I have
dry storage at Folsom Lake, so the boat can stay rigged and ready
to launch in just a few minutes. Storage costs 1/3 less than a slip
at the lake, with the added advantage that dry sailing means
no worries about blisters and no need of expensive bottom paint.
There is a secluded cove 45 minutes away from the marina, that has
a 5 mph speed limit that all but a few powerboaters comply with,
this is my favorite spot on the lake. At night, this cove is well
shielded from light pollution, so stargazing is pretty nice; not as good
as a remote high altitude mountain lake, but not bad considering it
is only 45 minutes from Sacramento and only 466' elevation. Boat
camping in this cove is really nice-very quiet at night, just the hum
of insects and the splash of fish jumping, occasionally the barking
of a dog way off in the distance somewhere. The name of my Catalina 22,
"Summertime Dream", comes from a Gordon Lightfoot song, but I was
thinking of this cove when I decided on that name for the boat.
The Catalina 25 I am buying is currently named "Celerity", which
the dictionary defines as "Swiftness of action or motion; speed".
Seems a nice name for a sailboat, not too common, and I might just
stick with it. Will let you know when I take delivery and get
ready to launch for the first time.
LC>make it up to the San Juans someday if I get this bigger boat, heard
LC>it's a really beautiful cruising area.
