That's only the _initial_ charge rate that MUST be limited. The gel
doesn't like to be gassed! Once the charge has begun and stabilized, small
changes in current can be tolerated.

Keep in mind, the part in that PS you are looking at might be just a 3A
part. It is common for cross-reference guides to list a heavier part as a
replacement for one that failed. To _really_ know what is in that PS you'd
have to find the manufacturer's manual.

Don't know right now, but it was last month when I was searching for cells
for my daughter's UPS. I had saved it and targeted it for you, but forgot
about it until this discussion came up!

One of the following might be the one:

http://www.pacificbattery.com/sla.html

http://www.ragebattery.com/power_sonic_sealed_lead_acid.html

http://www.statbattery.com/

http://energy.sourceguides.com/index.shtml

WARNING! That second-to-last "Statbattery" is one of the types
you have been discussing with Charles. It takes almost 5 minutes for the
initial screen to load! And, as was discussed, I quit dealing with them
and found the listings for Pacific, and Rage, and I might add, much better
deals.

The last item is an index of all manufacturers, gets pretty big!

     Good luck... M.
