| subject: | Re: Windows Update- rollback? |
From: Jan van Hoek (NL) >> I would only replace those files which are the "same"- >> so both the Installation History and Windows Update >> won't have an issue. This reply does not compute (by me): same name does not imply same content. Check a random example of a C:\WINDOWS\NTUnInstallxxxx directory, and you'll loose all hope(:-(( Not that it really matters what these directories contain (I delete them routinely), but it illustrates what a Windows Update action does under the hood. IF (I say IF, see my still more important "files in use" paragraph) this COPY operation succeeds, you may get a working installation. But I'll expect that subsequent usages of Windows Update will yield some complaints, sooner or later, especially when trying to reverse some later update. >> Both installation, >> from an XP perspective, >> are the same. Of course, that goes without saying. Otherwise this operation would be a Mission Impossible anyway. -- -- Jan van Hoek (NL) -- Fri 2 Jan 2004 23:02 CET --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
