I love getting around those problems, just the way my mind works.

Well I'm going to order that Knoppix ramdrive CD Linux now I've 256 meg
of memory at a great deal.

The USR 460 modem really does appear to be a Winmodem, the file
to install the driver identifies it so as does any number of hits
on Google. At the price I'm still happy though it seems
one must send USR a non-trivial sum to upgrade it to higher speed.

MSD doesn't see the modem in Win 3.1 nor does sysinfo in Norton
but the dialer indicates the IRQ conflict with the LPT port when
I attempt to dial so it's being seen there.

Other stuff I'll get to as circumstances permit.
My new large drive will be FDISKED with Linux FDISK just
in case there are BIOS limitations to drive size.
I'm thinking 6-10 gig for Windows and the rest to Linux native.

I'm going to see about locating a JPG of the 460 modem so I can find
the jumper to enable the IRQ and port setting program to take
so I can set it to what I want which is COM3 IRQ 4 instead of the current
IRQ 5.
