Hallo Jonathan,

JdBP> The
JdBP> point is that by design IN NO OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM DOES WILDCARD
JdBP> MATCHING WORK IN THE SAME WAY AS IT DOES IN DOS.
Thats not true. See BS 1000, BS 2000 for example. There the "." is a
delimiter in filenames (which can be up to 1/2k in length. So a name like
This.is.my.first.program.written.in.pascal is a valid one. Wildcarding there
works up to the point. That means if you like to get all pascal sourcefiles
the above example of a filename is not choosen too intelligent, because a
fstat *pascal (the dir equvalent) or fstat *.pascal wouldn't find the above
file. (though a fstat (*).pascal would).

Anyhow. What I want to say is that there surley are other operating systems
that handle wildcarding different to dos and that your above statement is not
true. If you had choosen firstpgm.pas as a filename (just to match the dos
criteria a fstat *pas wouldn't show that file, but a fstat *.pas or even *.*s
would.

But of course you are right if you say that all available commands should
treat wildcards the same way.
