For the USR Sportster, I have very good luck with AT&F1 which is the 
factory default for compression and hardware flow control. ATZ can give 
a slightly different result, depending on what profiles you have saved.
ATM1X4S0=0S7=90S11=50&C1&D2&B1&H1&K1&N0&R2^M~~ 
is the one included in TMWin, which is essentially the same factory 
defaults, but with a longer S7 time out allowed. I added the M1 to be 
sure the speaker was on (I also use RoboComm, which turns it off) and 
changed the S11 setting to 50 to make it dial faster.
LG> Please post one that can connect at 28.8
Both of those strings give me frequent 28.8 connects, but I still get 
some 26.4 and 21.? connects depending on where I am calling and the 
quality of the phone line connection at the time.
