I don't think so - the port speed seems to be standard for all calls.

Try the port speed for 115,200 just for the heck of it. I have a 33.6 fax 
modem and I connect without any difficulty - unfortunately the phone lines 
have their limits - the highest I was able to connect was at 31,200.

There might be but I don't know.
The problem with the one BBS you are having troubles with may not be from 
your end at all, it could be the phone lines or with the BBS itself.
