If your system slows down that much then you might just be better off running
Win3. Otherwise, make sure you have a decent amount of RAM (32 is so
innexpensive these days that it is my base recommendation), make sure you
force your swap file to start at 150% of it's maximum growth size (I use
65meg here) and make sure that maxwaits=1 is set in config.sys if you run a
dx4/100 or faster processor.
If you are having problems doing DNS then you need to find the duplicate
resolv file and get it fixed. Does it dial and resolv correctly using DOIP?
If not then then your setup is wrong. We need a lot more info to get things
