subject: Good Jam-Box for Under $250

Gidday Steve,

SM> My girlfriend is FINALLY wanting to get a CD player for
SM> her place and is looking at getting a jam box. Besides
SM> my $79 portable CD player at work, I have zero experience
SM> with portables. so I'm looking for some help, either
SM> manufacturers or exact models to be considered or avoided
 SM> would be greatly appreciated!
Okay Steve I could probably help you out there...greets from Australia by
the way :)
Okay...the ones you have to look out for are the ones of the "cheap 'n nasty"
variety...double cassette portables that go for $69 at your go low store.
The response from these is crummy to say the least, the speakers sound like
tin men talking in a monsoon, and the first thing to go on these is the a.m.
section of the tuner. Speaking from experience here :)
It was then I decided to dump this thing and buy myself a portable with
a dual tape deck, CD Player and am/fm tuner. I've got a sharp, WQ-CD55
portable I bought 3 months ago for $270 and it's been working fine. Great
sound! Although the bugger can be a bit heavy to carry around as it runs
on 8 D cells :) But that's nothing really thinking of the sound you get from
it - fantastic!

There's lots and lots of other models out so the only thing thats left to say
is that only you can decide which one would be best for you in terms of
operater's convienience and things along those lines. But for my money the
Sharp's a good deal :)

Hope this helps :)

Cheers,
Frank
... Don't hit me, Mr. Moderator... I'll go back on topic... I swear!
